The microclimates present in the reserve generate typical vegetation formations, which are grouped as follows: deciduous Magellanic forests, composed of the Nothofagus family, with species represented such as the lenga, the Magellan coigue and the ñirre; mixed Magellanic forests, composed of the association of Magellan and coigue; peat areas, which correspond to a mossy formation that covers the ground and gives the characteristics of vegetable cushions; peat, which occurs in areas influenced by the Tundra climate isothermal with a dominant herbaceous vegetation cover and large moss cushions that vary in color from light creamy red to reddish terracotta, the most characteristic species being Magellanic moss and Tetracium
Magellanic.
In forest and scrub environments, there are mammals such as rodents, culpean foxes, screeching foxes and, occasionally, pumas in the highlands. In addition, it is possible to observe a rich avifauna in the forest formations, in which thrushes, fiofío, rayaditos, chercan, tiuque, owl and white owl stand out. Meanwhile, in the peat area it is feasible to observe species such as caiquén, canquén, small jergón duck and juarjual duck.
