The flora is characteristic of the Patagonian steppe, dominated by shrubs such as mata negra, coirón, and other species adapted to the arid and windy conditions of the region.
The wildlife in the area is very rich, highlighted by the presence of more than 250,000 Magellanic penguins, making it one of the largest colonies in the country. In addition, guanacos, foxes, rheas, cormorants and, occasionally, southern right whales can be observed.
