The main value of this reserve is its forest of Araucaria Araucana (Pehuén), a sacred tree for the Mapuche people that can live more than 1,000 years.
Forests: Besides araucarias, there are extensive forests of Lenga, Coigüe, and Oak.
Autumn: It is one of the best places in Chile to see the change of color (reds and oranges) between April and May.
Birds: The Black Woodpecker is the king of the forest. One can also see condors, hawks, and the chucao (whose song is typical of the south).
Mammals: The Puma, the mountain Vizcacha (in the rock zones), the Culpeo Fox, and the Monito del Monte (a small ancestral marsupial) stand out.
