This is a transition zone (ecotone) between the forest and the steppe.
Primary species: Cordillera Cypress predominates on the more humid slopes, while the lower areas are filled with Coirón (yellow bunchgrass), Neneo, and Chañar.
Willows: Willows (some introduced) line the riverbanks, providing shade in recreation areas.
Birds: It is very common to see Andean Condors nesting in the rocky cliffs. Black-crowned night herons and kingfishers are also frequently spotted on the banks.
Mammals: In the steppe areas surrounding the river, you can find Guanacos, Darwin’s rheas (choiques), and grey foxes.
Aquatic: Large-sized trout (Brown and Rainbow) and perch.
