Penguin Island has low vegetation, adapted to extreme maritime conditions: hard grasses, lichens, mosses and coastal wetlands predominate.
The flora is concentrated in protected depressions and humid areas of the island. Due to its exposure to wind and salinity, the plant environment is scarce but resistant.
Flowering occurs mainly between November and January.
The Isla Pingüino Interjurisdictional Marine Park protects one of the most important concentrations of marine fauna in Patagonia. It is the only Argentine continental site with a breeding colony of yellow tufted penguins.
In addition, it houses Magellanic penguins, one-haired sea lions, occasional elephant seals, imperial cormorants, petrels, gulls and skúas.
The best time to spot wildlife is between November and March, when they reproduce and raise their young on the island.
