Patagonia Park, located in the heart of Santa Cruz, has a typical Patagonian steppe, with vegetation adapted to a cold, windy and dry climate.
Shrubs such as caulk, neneo, and black forest predominate, accompanied by extensive coirón pastures.
In wetter areas and close to lagoons, reeds and communities of aquatic vegetation appear. In high and protected areas, scattered specimens of lenga and ñire are found.
Between October and January, several wild flowers from the steppe bloom, painting the landscape with yellow, purple and white tones.
The fauna of Patagonia Park is characteristic of Southern Patagonia. Its most emblematic inhabitants include the guanaco, the red fox and the Patagonian fox. You can also see birds such as the majestic Andean condor, caranchos and the choique.
In lagoons and bodies of water, it is common to find black-necked swans, southern flamingos and wild ducks. Huemul is rare, but it could be found in more remote areas.
The best time to observe animals in the wild is spring and southern summer (November to March), when animal activity is more visible and the weather is milder.
